I highly recommend this guided tour to any Harry Potter fan!

I went on the Harry Potter Walking Tour London with my 11-year-old son. He's a true Potterhead, and this tour was one of the main reasons we came to London. The tour took place all around Central London, and I was surprised to learn how many "normal” landmarks were used as film locations. The London Eye, St. Paul's Cathedral, Millennium Bridge, and the Tower Bridge are all featured in Harry Potter films. Despite the typical London weather, our tour guide, Alex, was cheery, so the vibe of the group was fun. There was a quiz and a test to see which Hogwarts house participants belonged to. Turns out I'm a Slytherin, but my son is a Gryffindor just like Harry Potter. I highly recommend this guided tour to any Harry Potter film fan.

Great Harry Potter tour

My niece is a huge JK Rowling fan, so I, being a cool aunt, took her on this guided tour. She adores the Hermione character, and she wore a wizard's hat to the tour. She wasn't the only one, as many in the group had theirs plus their magic wands. Not just kids, but adults as well. I was surprised to see so many adults on the Harry Potter tour. Although the last Harry Potter film was made 15 years ago, Pottermania is apparently still alive! The tour guide took us to see various film locations and told us details about the production. We saw the Leaky Cauldron, the Diagon and Knockturn Alleys, and the Ministry of Magic. In short, we saw everything my niece wanted to see, and that's why this guided tour was worth it. And I kept my cool-aunt status!

DESCRIPTION

Harry Potter Walking Tour London

BOROUGH MARKET AND THE LEAKY CAULDRON

Your first stop on the Harry Potter Walking Tour London is the Borough Market. Here you'll have a chance to visit the entrance to the Leaky Cauldron wizarding pub. This unusual film location, situated near the Southwark Cathedral, is in fact a charming little flower shop.

THE MILLENNIUM BRIDGE AND DEATH EATERS

Revisit the dramatic scene from the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film. As any Potterhead knows, Death Eaters destroyed the Millennium Bridge on a command by their master, Lord Volde… You-Know-Who.

ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL AND THE SPIRAL STAIRCASE

No walking tour of London is complete without the St. Paul's Cathedral. Did you know the spiral staircase in the Prisoner of Azkaban film was modeled after the St. Paul's Geometric Staircase?

GREAT SCOTLAND YARD AND THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC

Another famous film location is the Great Scotland Yard, better known to Potterheads as the entrance to the Ministry of Magic. If you find a red telephone booth, do you know which number to dial? It's 62442 ("MAGIC")!

TRAFALGAR SQUARE AND THE GRINGOTTS BANK

As you approach Trafalgar Square, your tour guide will show you the Australia House. The interior of this grand Belle Époque-style building served as the film location for the Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

COVENT GARDEN AND KNOCKTURN ALLEY

Visit Covent Garden and Goodwin’s Court, which served as an inspiration for the Knockturn Alley. It's easy to miss, but your tour guide knows how to find it. Relive the Chamber of Secrets scene when Harry Potter gets lost in its narrow and dark passageways.

LEADENHALL MARKET AND THE DIAGON ALLEY

As the Harry Potter Walking Tour London approaches the end, you'll return to the Leaky Cauldron. Behind the wizarding pub and hidden from Muggles' prying eyes is Diagon Alley. The main shopping street in the wizarding world is, in fact, the Leadenhall Market. Stroll down in the company of your tour guide and enjoy the bustling atmosphere.

PRO TIP

Ask your guide which locations were changed digitally in the films and which ones were used almost exactly as they appear. Many London locations look ordinary in real life, and knowing what was added with CGI makes them much more interesting.
