I’ve been to London a few times but never entered Westminster Abbey, so I had to do it this time. Seeing the Coronation Chair was a highlight of the tour for me. It felt surreal to see it in person. I loved our guide, Louis. He shared quite a few stories about the coronations and funerals that happened there. I also learned a lot about Gothic architecture. All in all, I’d recommend this to anyone visiting London.
I booked last minute and didn’t expect much, but the tour was very organized. The Poets' Corner part surprised me. I didn’t expect to see memorials for authors I studied in school. I also liked hearing about the funeral of Princess Diana, which took place there. Also, the fact that every monarch since 1066 was crowned here really shows how important the place is. It was worth the price.

The Coronation Chair and Stone of Destiny
Westminster Abbey is home to the famous Coronation Chair. King Edward I built it in 1296. This chair was designed to hold the Stone of Scone, known as the Stone of Destiny. Edward took this stone from Scotland to symbolize his rule. For centuries, monarchs were crowned on this chair with the stone beneath them. In 1950, four Scottish students stole the Stone from Westminster Abbey as a protest. This, of course, caused a big scandal. The Stone was later secretly returned to the Abbey. In 1996, it was officially sent back to Scotland. However, it still returns to the Abbey for coronations, including King Charles III’s in 2026.
