Fascinating landmark with so much history!

The visit to the Tower of London was absolutely wonderful! There's so much history there, and it was great to see everything. I thought it would be a quick visit, but I stayed for about 3 hours, and I loved it! It was especially nice to see the Crown Jewels. Royal clothes from the past were also an interesting sight.

Valentina

It was great to explore at my own pace

The history of the place is incredible! If you choose one historic site, visit the Tower of London. Seeing the Crown Jewels was delightful, and I spotted a few of the famous ravens. Personally, I also really enjoyed seeing the armor and the weapons. I definitely recommend the included Beefeater tour. He not only knew so many interesting stories about kings and queens, but was also hilarious. 10/10!

UNCOVER ALMOST 1,000 YEARS OF HISTORY

Explore one of the most famous attractions in London, the Tower of London! You can take a Beefeater tour to learn more about its history from one of its guardians, the Yeoman Warders. Learn how, during almost 1,000 years of its history, the Tower of London was a royal palace, a fortress, and a prison. It was built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, and took 20 years to complete! New parts were added later, and the Tower of London became a castle with concentric defence rings. Multiple towers form the structure. The White Tower was at the center. The Bloody Tower is infamous for the disappearance of two princes. Tower Green is where high-ranking individuals, such as the wives of Henry VIII, were executed. The building was also used as the site of the Royal Armouries, a zoo, and the Royal Mint. Today, the Tower of London is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visited by more than 3 million visitors every year. Fun fact: the Yeoman Warders and their families still live at the Tower of London!

SEE THE CROWN JEWELS

Discover a collection of 23,578 gemstones and items still part of royal ceremonies. Walk through the Treasury, where most of the Crown Jewels are kept. Here, you can see the stunning Imperial State Crown, worn by King Charles III for his coronation procession to Buckingham Palace. One of the stones in the crown comes from the Cullinan diamond, the largest uncut diamond ever discovered! You can also see St Edward's Crown, which was used to crown the king. Then, enter the Jewel House and see the State Crown frames worn by Queen Victoria and other monarchs. Another gleaming item on display is the famous Koh-i-Noor diamond. The ownership of the large diamond is controversial, with India and several other countries claiming it. There are also displays dedicated to the Coronation Procession so that you can learn more about British pageantry. Visit the Dress Codes exhibition to see royal clothes!

SEE THE YEOMAN WARDERS & THE RAVENS

The Yeoman Warders, also called the Beefeaters, are a famous symbol of the Tower of London. In the past, they were the monarch's personal security! In the 16th century, Henry VIII declared that the Yeoman Warders would permanently guard the castle. You can recognize them by their red uniforms. When you see a raven at the Tower of London, remember the legend! If the ravens leave, both the Tower and the kingdom will fall. The Ravenmaster, one of the Yeoman Warders, takes care of them. Book your Tower of London Tickets to see its famous guardians and spot the legendary ravens!
